Montería mayor launches 128 full scholarships as unemployment climbs to 11.3%

Mayor Hugo Kerguelén García announced a new education initiative that will grant 128 full scholarships to the top athlete and cultural talent from each school in Montería. The program, called “Todos a la U”, is intended to fund professional degrees and change the future of 128 families. Kerguelén said, “Solo la educación transforma un destino.”

According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), Montería’s unemployment rate rose to 11.3% in the April‑June 2026 quarter, up from 10.4% a year earlier. The city placed fourth among the seven Caribbean Colombian capitals, and the increase falls within the survey’s margin of error. No Caribbean capital fell below the national average unemployment rate of 8.3%.
