Montería Police Install Road Checkpoint to Combat Drug Trafficking

The San Jerónimo de Montería police unit set up a control post at kilometer 15 on the Montería‑Planeta Rica highway to curb the movement of illicit drugs. Officers inspected the backgrounds of travelers and vehicles, conducting searches and checks on public buses serving the Medellín‑Montería and Bogotá‑Montería routes, which are major corridors for passenger and cargo traffic.

Captain Marina Estrada, head of the unit, said the checkpoint is part of a permanent deployment on the department’s main roads. “These actions strengthen public safety and ensure that those traveling on our routes do so in a safer environment,” she said. The police urged residents to report any suspicious activity through emergency line 123 and pledged to continue preventive, surveillance, and control operations on key roadways.
