Montería unveils 2040 strategic vision for green development

The Mayor of Montería, Hugo Kerguelén García, has introduced 'Montería 2040: Green and Biodiversity District,' a long-term strategic vision designed to guide the city's development over the coming decades. The plan addresses a projected population surge, with estimates suggesting the city's urban and rural inhabitants could reach approximately 740,000 by 2040.

The strategy is built upon six core pillars: regeneration, water management, climate adaptation, additionality and affordability, biodiversity, and positive rurality. Key focus areas include housing, mobility, employment, education, connectivity, and the protection of natural resources, with the Sinú River serving as a central element in the planning process.

A major component of the initiative is citizen participation. The development process will follow four stages: preparation, virtual consultations, project definition meetings, and the establishment of citizen pacts. The administration aims to involve diverse sectors, including youth, women, indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, farmers, and the business sector, to ensure the vision transcends individual government terms.
