Monterey Car Week 2026 sees record-breaking auction sales

The 2026 Monterey Car Week saw record-breaking auction results and significant automotive debuts. Total sales across five major auction houses reached approximately $748 million, significantly exceeding previous forecasts. This surge was driven by a “K-shaped market” where ultra-rare vehicles command massive premiums while more common collector cars see less demand.

Key auction highlights included a 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe CSX2300, which sold for $42.9 million, setting a new record for an American car. Additionally, the Ferrari Luce, the brand’s first fully electric model, fetched $40 million.

The event also served as a major platform for new model reveals. Aston Martin introduced the Valen, a 850-horsepower V12 supercar. Acura showcased the Nexera Vision concept, a driver-focused sports car prototype. Other notable appearances included Lamborghini’s Revuelto SV and custom Bugatti models by Mansory. While the event highlighted extreme luxury and technological shifts toward electrification, some European manufacturers expressed concerns regarding market shifts and the complexities of transitioning to electric drivetrains.
