Monterey County investigators link teen mother to death of ‘Baby Angelita’

Investigators in Monterey County have released new details regarding the death of a newborn infant known as ‘Baby Angelita.’ Authorities believe the 14-year-old mother of the child was driving a vehicle that ran over the infant after she gave birth near a strawberry field on Struve Road.

The infant’s body was discovered on August 1 with injuries consistent with being crushed by a vehicle. Detectives identified a beige Mercury sedan through surveillance footage and license plate readers. The investigation revealed that the 14-year-old had been impregnated by her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez.

Following an Amber Alert, the mother and Galvez Perez were located by Mexican authorities in Mexico. While Galvez Perez was arrested on local drug possession charges, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice are working to extradite him to face sexual assault charges in Monterey County. Investigators stated they have found no evidence suggesting Galvez Perez was involved in the infant's death.
