Monterrei hosts international bagpipe festival

The 41st edition of the Xuntanza Internacional de Gaiteiros has commenced in Flariz, Monterrei, serving as a musical meeting point for bagpipers and traditional musicians from across Europe. The event features performers from Galicia, Zamora, Hungary, Romania, Ireland, and the Mari El Republic in Russia.

This year's edition highlights Hungarian musical traditions and pays tribute to composer and ethnomusicologist Béla Bartók, who studied the folk songs of rural musicians in Hungary and Romania. The program includes a series of conferences and concerts, including a main spectacle in Albarellos featuring international performers alongside local Galician groups.
