Monterrei Water Park in Ourense Completes Major Expansion Ahead of Record Summer

The Monterrei sports and leisure complex in Ourense, Galicia, has finished its final phase of development with the inauguration of new water‑park attractions, including a slow‑flow river, high‑adrenaline slides and a multi‑adventure zone. The project, co‑financed by the Xunta de Galicia and the provincial government, represents an investment of about €13 million.

Provincial president Luis Menor and sports councilor Diego Calvo highlighted the strategic and economic importance of the facility, which aims to attract around 140,000 visitors this summer and serve as a major tourism gateway for north‑west Spain and neighboring Portugal. The complex also features a splash area, wave pool, tennis, padel, pump‑track and a newly certified athletics track.

Officials described the completion as a “big day” for Ourense, emphasizing the park’s role in boosting regional tourism and providing high‑quality leisure options for Galicians.
