WTA Monterrey semifinals set as Mertens and Bartunkova advance

The WTA Monterrey semifinals are set following a series of decisive matches at Club Sonoma. Second seed Elise Mertens advanced to the semifinals after defeating Yulia Starodubtseva in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Nikola Bartunkova secured her place in the semifinals by winning a three-set marathon against compatriot Darja Vidmanova, finishing 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Bartunkova will face Mertens in the upcoming semifinal match.

On the other side of the bracket, American Ann Li progressed to the semifinals after defeating Alycia Parks 6-2, 6-3. Li is scheduled to face French player Diane Parry, who moved forward by defeating Clara Tauson 6-3, 7-5.

Earlier in the tournament, defending champion Ekaterina Alexandrova was eliminated in the opening rounds by Clara Tauson.
