Monterrey pedestrian bridge collapses onto vehicle during Metro construction

A pedestrian bridge collapsed onto Avenida Constitución in Monterrey, Mexico, after heavy machinery being transported for Metro Line 4 construction struck the structure. The incident occurred near the Miguel F. Martínez Normal School, causing the concrete structure to fall onto the express lanes and a passing vehicle.

While the accident resulted in material damage to vehicles, no injuries were reported. Nuevo León Governor Samuel García stated that the collapse was caused by an operational error by the Mota-Engil consortium. The company has reportedly accepted responsibility and will cover the costs for repairs, necessary maneuvers, and damages to affected individuals.

Local authorities, including Civil Protection and the Red Cross, responded to secure the area and manage traffic disruptions. Officials have indicated that the accident will not cause delays in the construction schedule or the delivery of the new Metro lines.
