Monterrey police arrest two men with 35 bank cards and drugs
Two Venezuelan nationals, identified as 47-year-old Leonardo Javier and 41-year-old Dany Enríquez, were arrested in downtown Monterrey after a police pursuit. Municipal officers intercepted their white Mercedes-Benz after the vehicle drove at excessive speeds and nearly collided with a patrol car at the intersection of Mariano Jiménez and Calzada Madero.
During a search of the vehicle, authorities discovered 35 bank cards from various financial institutions and seven packets containing a green leafy substance resembling marijuana. The suspects reportedly acted aggressively toward officers during the stop.
Investigators have linked the men to a series of ATM distraction thefts in the city center. In these schemes, perpetrators approach bank users offering assistance to distract them while stealing or swapping their cards. The suspects' physical descriptions and methods match reports from previous incidents, including a confirmed robbery on October 4 near the intersection of Benito Juárez and Modesto Arreola. Both men have been transferred to the custody of the Public Ministry.
