Montes Vivos network recognized for biodiversity conservation
The Montes Vivos network, a collective of approximately 100 entities managing over 42,000 hectares of communal forest land, has been recognized by the international publication Local Biodiversity Outlooks. The network, which includes communities in Galicia, focuses on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity through shared experiences and sustainable management practices.
Supported by the Monte Escuela Foundation, the network was established to address common challenges faced by local land management communities. It is noted as the only case of best practices from Spain and one of the few in Europe included in the publication's report on local and indigenous community contributions to biodiversity conservation.
