Montesilvano begins treatments to combat pine scale insect

Treatments have commenced in Montesilvano to combat the proliferation of Toumeyella parvicornis, commonly known as the pine turtle scale. This harmful organism can compromise the vegetative state of plants and, in severe cases, lead to death.

The intervention follows national and regional regulations planned by the Abruzzo Region. The municipal administration tasked Dr. Francesco Cellini with monitoring the tree heritage to identify affected areas. The NL Group Società Cooperativa has been commissioned to perform endotherapy treatments using the active ingredient Abamectin. These operations target various public spaces, including green zones, streets, and squares such as Viale Aldo Moro and Parco Giovanni Paolo II.

However, the association Radici in Comune has criticized the management of the insect infestation in the Pescara area, noting that the issue has persisted for five years. The association claims that previous interventions have been neither timely nor sufficiently extensive, citing discrepancies between announced treatment goals and the actual number of trees treated since the initial official reports in 2021.
