Montevallo, Alabama hosts community events for U.S. 250th birthday

The city of Montevallo commemorated the United States' semiquincentennial with a series of public festivities. At American Village, the state‑sanctioned "Sweet Home 250" celebration featured performances by the Blind Boys of Alabama, a marching band, historical interpreters and video messages from Governor Kay Ivey and U.S. Senator Katie Britt.

Meanwhile, the Parnell Memorial Library organized a local "Americaversary" program that included patriotic crafts, a corn‑husking contest, a 25‑question history trivia game and a portrayal of Betsy Ross who led flag‑making activities. Montevallo city council members attended to judge contests and support the events, which were intended to engage residents of all ages in the nation's 250th‑birthday celebrations.
