Montevarchi blackout forces suspension of Levane cycling race

During the Festa del Perdono in Levane, the public lighting system failed on the evenings of 27‑28 July 2024. The Montevarchi municipality reported that, after citizen complaints, assessor Andrea Brandi contacted the service provider Engie, which carried out inspections and temporarily restored illumination on the first night.

Further checks on 28 July, including video‑recorded tests by Engie technicians and patrols by the local police at the request of assessor Stefano Allegrucci, found no faults. However, the lights went out again at 21:00, and despite a rapid response from Engie, the outage was not resolved in time, leading the organizers to suspend the scheduled cycling race. The municipality said it considers itself a victim of the disruption and is prepared to pursue legal action if sabotage is proven.
