Montevergine Sanctuary sees large crowds of pilgrims for Ferragosto

The Montevergine Sanctuary in Campania experienced a large influx of pilgrims and tourists during the Ferragosto celebrations. Many devotees, including a significant number of young people, reached the Sanctuary of Mamma Schiavona on foot.

The 11:00 AM Mass was presided over by the Abbot of Montevergine, Riccardo Luca Guariglia. During his homily, the Abbot emphasized the role of the Virgin Mary as a guide and a sign of hope for the faithful. The event holds special significance as the Basilica of Maria Santissima di Montevergine serves as a jubilee site for the ‘Jubilee of Hope’.

Despite ongoing road access issues in recent months, the site remains a major Catholic pilgrimage destination, typically attracting approximately two million pilgrims annually from around the world. Giancarlo Di Chiara, delegate of the Irpinia Section of the OEESG, was also in attendance to represent the Irpinian delegation.
