Montevideo hosts social science and gender economy research conferences

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Republic in Montevideo has hosted significant academic gatherings focused on contemporary social crises and economic structures.

The XXI Research Days, themed ‘Changing Era? Social Sciences Facing Contemporary Crises’, feature thematic tables, book presentations, and lectures by national and international researchers. Key speakers include Ana Falú, discussing feminist urbanism and care, and Juan Pablo Luna, addressing state erosion and democratic futures in Latin America. The event also includes a tribute to Professor Rosario Aguirre and a closing lecture on decolonial perspectives by Nelson Maldonado Torres.

Additionally, Montevideo hosted the 7th Meeting of the Society of Gender and Family Economics. This event brought together over 100 specialists to debate challenges regarding gender, family, and the economy, including labor markets, education, and social norms. Discussions included comparative perspectives on gender gaps in academia across Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, as well as research on fertility rates and social transformations in Latin America and the Caribbean.
