Montevideo Port begins new Antarctic cruise season

The Port of Montevideo has commenced a new season of Antarctic cruises with the arrival of seven expedition vessels. The arriving ships include the MS Expedition, Ocean Albatros, Ocean Nova, Sylvia Earle, Ocean Explorer, Seaventure, and Sea Spirit. These vessels are specifically equipped for polar navigation, featuring reinforced hulls designed to operate in ice-prone waters.

Local maritime officials noted that the port serves as a critical scale point connecting South America to Antarctic destinations. Beyond direct port services such as crew changes, maritime provisioning, repairs, and potable water supply, the influx of passengers contributes to the local economy through increased demand for hotel accommodations, gastronomy, and retail services.
