Montferland lifts one-way traffic restriction near German border

The municipality of Montferland has lifted a seven-month one-way traffic restriction on the Eltenseweg near Beek. The measure, which was implemented earlier this year, was designed to prevent motorists from using the village to bypass German border controls at Elten.

Montferland Alderman Jeanette Derksen symbolically removed a prohibition sign on Wednesday morning, noting that the decision to lift the restrictions follows the relocation of German border controls. The previous restriction had drawn significant local criticism regarding accessibility, though officials noted it successfully reduced traffic movements on certain roads by up to 75 percent, improving local safety and livability.
