Montgó mountain rescue: Runner evacuated after extreme rain
A 44-year-old runner was rescued from the Montgó mountain in Spain after becoming trapped during extreme torrential rainfall. The individual had gone running near the Pare Pere hermitage in the Dénia area, but as night fell, he became stuck on a slippery precipice and was unable to move forward or return.
The runner spent a night outdoors amidst intense storms, including heavy rain and lightning. Following an alarm raised by his family, search teams located him at approximately 8:11 a.m. on Sunday. The Alicante Firefighters Consortium coordinated the rescue, which involved a helicopter evacuation to the Dénia fire station, supported by the National and Local Police.
Weather reports indicated significant rainfall in the region, with approximately 97 liters per square meter recorded in the Xàbia area.
