Montgomery County to host virtual event for 988 Day

Montgomery County will observe 988 Day on Tuesday, September 8, through a virtual event designed to raise awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The lifeline provides free, confidential support 24/7 for individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, or suicide-related crises. The service is also available to those seeking emotional support or those concerned about another person.

In Montgomery County, the 988 service is administered by EveryMind. As part of the observance, the County’s Local Behavioral Health Authority will host a free, public virtual meeting of the Suicide Prevention Coalition at 4 p.m. Ariel Gordon, the director of the Montgomery County 988 hotline with EveryMind, will participate to discuss the service and its community impact.

The national 988 Day campaign theme, “988 Reasons,” emphasizes the various motivations for seeking help. Additionally, the Montgomery County Crisis Center remains available 24 hours a day for crisis intervention, assessments, and referrals.
