Monti della Laga villages to be featured in new proximity observatory report

The Osservatorio di Prossimità dei Borghi e Sentieri della Laga will officially present its report in Rome on September 28, 2026. The project focuses on 110 rural, medieval-origin villages located within the Monti della Laga mountain territory, spanning the regions of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Marche.

The initiative aims to study the long-term transformations of these settlements, which have faced challenges such as depopulation, abandonment, and the aftermath of earthquakes in Central Italy. Moving beyond traditional statistics, the observatory utilizes participatory research, involving local residents to map needs, resources, and cultural heritage.

The collected data is intended to serve as a tool for institutions, administrations, and researchers to help plan territorial policies and interventions for these internal areas.
