Monti Sibillini National Park begins removal of old Bove Sud cable car pylons

The Municipality of Ussita and the Monti Sibillini National Park have begun the permanent removal of the old Bove Sud cable car pylons located between Monte Bicco and Monte Bove Sud. The infrastructure has been out of use for over thirty years and was considered a significant visual blight on the natural landscape.

The demolition project includes specific mitigation measures to minimize the impact on local wildlife, particularly the chamois populations in the area. Corrado Perugini, president of the Park, described the intervention as a necessary act of care to restore the authenticity and integrity of the mountain peaks.

This environmental restoration is occurring alongside the development of the new Frontignano–Cornaccione cable car. Mayor Silvia Bernardini noted that the project aims to promote sustainable, low-impact tourism and seasonal diversification. To illustrate the reduced environmental footprint, the project is replacing 72 old pylons from decommissioned systems with only 19 pylons for the new installation.
