Montichiari teacher dies following sudden illness, meningitis suspected
Mira Jovovic, a 53-year-old teacher at the San Giovanni Battista nursery and kindergarten in Vighizzolo, a hamlet of Montichiari, has died following a rapid decline in health. After working her regular shift on Friday, she reportedly began experiencing high fever and severe headaches. Her condition deteriorated significantly on Saturday, leading to hospitalization and her subsequent death.
Health authorities at ATS Brescia have activated preventive prophylaxis measures to protect individuals who may have been in contact with the teacher, with a specific focus on the children at the school and their families. While meningitis is a suspected cause of death, an autopsy will be conducted to confirm the exact cause and determine if a meningococcal infection was involved.
Mayor Marco Togni confirmed the need for further investigation. Despite the community's concern, the school is scheduled to resume regular activities on Monday.
