Montiel to host Castilla-La Mancha Cyclocross Championships
The town of Montiel will host the I Ciclocross de Montiel on October 11, an event that serves as the Castilla-La Mancha Cyclocross Championships. Organized by Teams Bikers Club in collaboration with the local City Council, the competition will also mark the start of the III Cyclocross Racing Cup and serve as the second scoring round for the Castilla-La Mancha Cup.
The event is dedicated to the memory of Antonio Fernández Matamoros, a prominent cyclist and former Spanish champion in cyclocross, mountain biking, and road racing, who passed away on February 15. Local Mayor Fernanda García Nogueras noted that the event aims to honor his legacy while boosting local tourism and economic activity.
The race will take place at El Prao park, near the ermita de Nuestra Señora de los Mártires, featuring a 3,300-meter circuit. The course is designed to include a mix of high-speed sections and technical zones, such as planks, stairs, and a demanding central climb. The competition holds national status and will award points toward the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) rankings.
