Montpellier court tries six men for collective violence

Six men appeared before the Montpellier Judicial Court on September 10 to face charges of collective violence stemming from incidents on September 18, 2025. The proceedings concern assaults that occurred near the Place des Beaux-Arts following an inter-union demonstration.

The defendants, most of whom are in their early twenties, are accused of participating in a group of approximately fifty individuals who moved through the city center, using insults and physical aggression. During the hearing, both the prosecution and the civil parties sought to keep the legal debate focused on the acts of violence rather than the political context of the day, though the defense has attempted to introduce political arguments.

Two of the six defendants were not present for the hearing: one failed to appear, and another is currently in Australia but is represented by legal counsel.
