Montpellier Hérault Rugby to rely on internal squad after key injuries

Montpellier Hérault Rugby faces significant injury setbacks in their front row as Mohamed Haouas and Jordan Uelese are sidelined for several months. Haouas, a French international prop, underwent surgery for pubalgia and is expected to be out for approximately three months. Australian hooker Jordan Uelese suffered a fractured jaw following contact during a match against Pau, which is projected to keep him out for about four months.

Despite these losses, MHR manager Joan Caudullo has decided against recruiting a medical joker. Instead, the club will rely on internal squad depth to cover the absences. Caudullo expressed confidence in the existing roster, noting that the situation provides an opportunity for younger players to gain Top 14 experience.

Potential replacements include Lyam Akrab at hooker, Valentin Welsch, who offers versatility at both prop positions, and Luca Tabarot, who is returning from injury. Christopher Tolofua is also expected to provide cover at both hooker and right prop. These absences come as Montpellier prepares for an upcoming match against Vannes, following a recent home defeat to Pau.
