Montpellier opens 64th neighborhood composting site

Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has inaugurated its 64th neighborhood composting site at the Cité Créative. The new installation features seven 1,000-liter bins designed to help residents manage food scraps, coffee grounds, and other organic waste that currently makes up approximately 40% of the contents in grey trash bins.

The project cost 5,000 euros, with funding provided equally by Ademe and the Region. The site includes maintenance tools and instructional signage to guide residents. This expansion is part of a broader network of waste management equipment in the area, which includes 276 units in residential areas and 219 in various establishments, including about 100 in schools.
