Montreal Canadiens defeat Chicago Blackhawks 4-1

The Montreal Canadiens secured a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Friday night. Jake Evans led the offensive effort with two goals, including a short-handed goal, and an assist on Kaiden Guhle’s goal. Mike Matheson added an empty-net goal to seal the win, while goaltender Jacob Fowler made 20 saves.

Connor Bedard scored the lone goal for Chicago in the first period. The Canadiens played the game without captain Nick Suzuki, who is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks due to an upper-body injury. Following this win, Montreal is scheduled to face the Winnipeg Jets in the Heritage Classic outdoor game on Sunday.

For the Blackhawks, the loss brings their record to 3-7-0. Head coach Blashill noted that while the team created scoring chances, they were ultimately outscored. The team also recently activated veteran winger Andrew Mangiapane from the injured reserve.
