Montreal Canadiens assign top prospects Fowler and Reinbacher to Laval

The Montreal Canadiens have made several roster decisions heading into the season, opting to assign high-profile prospects to the Laval Rocket to ensure consistent playing time and development.

Goaltender Jacob Fowler was cut from the main roster in favor of Samuel Montembeault. While Fowler is considered one of the top goaltending prospects in the NHL, the decision allows him to gain necessary game repetitions in Laval rather than serving as a depth option in Montreal.

Similarly, defenseman David Reinbacher was assigned to Laval. Despite being viewed as a high-value talent capable of playing in the NHL for many teams, the organization has opted to prioritize experience and seniority on the Montreal blue line, utilizing players like Adam Engstrom, Jayden Struble, and Arber Xhekaj.
