Montreal Canadiens expected to extend Martin St. Louis contract

The Montreal Canadiens are expected to offer head coach Martin St. Louis a contract extension following a highly successful season. After years of rebuilding, the team achieved a breakthrough, recording 106 points in the regular season and reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, where they eventually lost to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Journalist Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports that a four-year extension for St. Louis would align with the long-term security already provided to management members Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, both of whom signed five-year extensions. Since taking over the team mid-way through the 2021-2022 season, St. Louis has been credited with transforming the roster, specifically helping young players like Cole Caufield reach their potential. His coaching performance earned him fifth place in the Jack Adams Award voting last season.
