Scheifele, who recently completed a 103-point season, is under contract through the 2030-31 season with an average annual value of $8.5 million and holds a full no-movement clause until July 2027.

Speculation regarding a trade arises as the Winnipeg Jets face a standoff with starting goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who has requested a trade and is currently suspended without pay for not reporting to training camp. If the Jets decide to move Scheifele, the asking price for the Canadiens could involve assets such as Oliver Kapanen, Michael Hage, Kirby Dach, or Samuel Montembeault.
