Demi Vollering wins women's road world title in Montreal

Demi Vollering has won the women's elite road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, securing her first career world title. The Dutch rider delivered a decisive attack approximately 38 to 39 kilometers from the finish, eventually winning a sprint against Poland's Kasia Niewiadoma, who took the silver medal. Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy secured the bronze, marking her fourth career world championship medal.

The race was characterized by intense tactical battles and a significant mid-race crash in the Outremont borough. The incident forced several contenders to withdraw, including reigning champion Magdeleine Vallières Mill and Spanish rider Paula Blasi. Despite the chaos and a moment where Vollering feared her early attack might be neutralized, she maintained her lead to complete an exceptional season that included victories at the Tour de France Femmes and the Giro d'Italia Women.

In the men's category, anticipation is building for the road race, with Remco Evenepoel and Isaac Del Toro noted as major contenders. Paul Seixas, who recently earned a bronze in the individual time trial, is also positioned as a key figure for the French team.
