Montreal man earns $110,000 from raccoon-themed cryptocurrency

Louka Berman, a Montreal resident known as the ‘raccoon guy,’ has earned over $110,000 in transaction fees from ‘Pepper,’ an obscure cryptocurrency named after his adopted pet. Berman rescued the raccoon after finding it injured at a construction site last May.

The cryptocurrency was launched on October 10 by an online trader using the pseudonym ‘Hiruzen.’ Berman stated that Hiruzen contacted him to propose a partnership that allowed him to collect creator rewards from the coin. The currency is listed on Pump.fun, a platform currently on a warning list from Quebec’s financial market regulator due to high investor risks.

Berman has used approximately $20,000 to pay off debt and cover personal expenses. He intends to use the remaining funds to establish an animal sanctuary, a project he estimates will cost $400,000. While expressing relief at the life-changing income, Berman noted he was unaware of the potential financial risks to investors and does not wish to profit from others' suffering.
