Montreal police arrest suspect in Mexico for 2025 homicide

Montreal police have announced the arrest of Gabriel Lavoie, 22, in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in connection with a 2025 homicide. Lavoie was wanted on a murder warrant related to the death of a 34-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough on March 14, 2025.

This arrest marks the third breakthrough in the case. While two other individuals, Dave Lambert-Chouinard and Valdano Saint-Hillien, were previously charged with manslaughter, Lavoie has been remanded in custody pending extradition proceedings as the investigation continues.
