Montreal police suspend fourth officer amid racism allegations
A fourth Montreal police officer has been suspended following allegations of racism and discrimination. The suspension, effective August 19, is linked to a third separate incident of alleged misconduct.
These developments follow the June decision by Police Chief Fady Dagher to disband and disarm a 16-member patrol unit in Montreal North. The unit was dissolved amid serious allegations, including claims that officers cut the hair of racialized citizens and kept it as trophies.
Internal investigations have already led to the suspension of three other officers, with their cases referred to Quebec’s prosecution service.
