Montreal police suspend two officers over misconduct allegations

Two officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) have been suspended following allegations of humiliating and degrading misconduct toward citizens. The Professional Standards Division has opened an investigation into the matter.

Reports indicate that one officer allegedly urinated on an unhoused person while on duty. A second officer is accused of taking photos that mock a suspect by placing them in a humiliating position during an arrest. These allegations were reportedly brought forward by fellow officers within the SPVM.

Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada described the allegations as “very serious” and stated they “violate the dignity to which everyone is entitled.” The SPVM declined to provide specific details, citing legal obligations regarding employee privacy and the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
