Montreal to invest $15.8 million in snow removal and road maintenance

The City of Montreal has announced a $15.8 million investment to modernize its snow removal operations and pothole repair efforts ahead of a challenging winter season. The administration, led by Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada, plans to upgrade its fleet with 43 new pieces of equipment, including 19 loader-tractors, 13 snowblower heads, and 11 spreader trucks.

An additional $2.5 million will be allocated to local boroughs to support street maintenance and equipment mobilization. The city also intends to adjust its de-icing strategy by increasing salt usage and introducing a new de-icing additive derived from starfish, a technology sourced following an economic mission to South Korea.
