Montrose advances $2.4M drinking water reservoir replacement

The Montrose council has approved the next phase of the Lower Reservoir Capacity Upgrade Project, a $2.44 million initiative to replace the village’s lower drinking water reservoir. On October 5, the council accepted a proposal from TRUE Consulting exceeding $65,000 for engineering services focused on preliminary design and site investigation.

The project follows a 2023 recommendation to replace the reservoir rather than rehabilitate it due to identified deficiencies. A preliminary design brief suggests a cast-in-place concrete reservoir with a capacity of 740 cubic metres.

Engineers are currently evaluating two potential locations, the east and west sites, with the east site appearing more favorable thus far. Upcoming work will involve geotechnical, environmental, and archaeological assessments, including the excavation of test pits to determine subsurface conditions and depth to bedrock. The project is funded through the Strategic Priorities Fund.
