Montserrat Torrent performs centennial concert in Cáceres

Renowned organist Montserrat Torrent, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, performed a concert at the Church of Santa María de la Consolación in Garrovillas de Alconétar, Cáceres. The event brought together regional authorities, including the president of the Diputación de Cáceres, Miguel Ángel Morales.

Torrent, a highly decorated figure in Spanish and Catalan organ music, has performed over 1,700 concerts across four continents and released approximately 50 recordings. Her career achievements include the Creu de Sant Jordi and the 2021 National Music Prize for Interpretation. In recognition of her centennial, the Generalitat has declared 2026 as the 'Year of Montserrat Torrent'.

The concert featured works from the 16th and 17th centuries, performed on a Renaissance organ that is considered a unique musical treasure in Europe. The instrument, which has documented origins dating back to at least the 16th century, was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) by the Junta de Extremadura in 2020 due to its extraordinary historical and artistic value.
