Monty Desai resigns as head coach of Canada men's cricket team

Monty Desai has resigned from his position as the head coach of the Canada men's cricket team. Desai, who had been appointed for a second stint with the team on May 1, 2024, announced his departure via a social media post.

Desai described his time with the team as a “short chapter, but a meaningful chapter,” expressing gratitude to the players and support staff. This marked his second term with Canada, having previously coached the team during the 2019 World Cricket League 2 campaign in Namibia.

During his current tenure, Desai led the team through two ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 series and two tri-series, including matches in Canada and Scotland. The team currently sits six points behind the top four positions with four matches remaining in their campaign, aiming to qualify for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 qualifiers.

With over 20 years of coaching experience, including work with the UAE, Afghanistan, and Nepal, Desai leaves a vacancy that Cricket Canada management will now look to fill.
