Monty Don faces staffing challenges after leaving Gardeners’ World
Monty Don, the longtime host of the BBC program ‘Gardeners’ World’, has stated he may have to let go of his two full-time gardeners following his departure from the show. Speaking at the RHS Malvern autumn flower show, the 71-year-old horticulturist explained that his BBC contract required the employment of two gardeners to ensure his Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow, remained camera-ready at all times.
Don revealed that the BBC has contributed to the salaries of his staff since he began filming at his home in 2011. With the end of his tenure, that financial contribution will cease. Don noted that he cannot afford to maintain the staff without new revenue streams, though he is considering ways to earn money from the garden starting in mid-2025. He clarified that he does not intend to open the private two-acre space to the public due to privacy and logistical concerns.
