Brianza authorities launch monitoring plan for industrial odors
Institutional authorities in the Brianza region have launched a coordinated monitoring plan to address recurring reports of offensive odors affecting several municipalities, including Ceriano Laghetto, Solaro, Saronno, Limbiate, Cesate, and Cogliate.
During a recent summit involving the Province of Monza and Brianza, Arpa Lombardia, and local police, officials identified the industrial area of Ceriano Laghetto as the primary geographic focus of the complaints. While inspections of various production sites have already been conducted, authorities noted that the odors vary in character, suggesting multiple possible sources rather than a single entity.
This issue is not unprecedented, as similar olfactory disturbances were reported in the summer of 2021. To prevent reactive-only responses, officials are implementing a structured, long-term monitoring system in accordance with regional regulations. This plan will involve organized data collection, cross-referencing citizen reports with meteorological conditions and specific timeframes to pinpoint the exact origins of the emissions.
