Monza orders urgent evacuation of via Tazzoli center

The Mayor of Monza, Paolo Pilotto, has issued an urgent ordinance ordering the evacuation of the former Giovanni Paolo II reception center on via Tazzoli. The decision follows inspections by environmental and health authorities that revealed severe hygienic-sanitary degradation, illegal waste accumulation, and the presence of asbestos.

Of the 96 original guests at the facility, 89 have already been relocated. However, approximately seven to eight individuals remain in the building after refusing alternative housing options provided by social services. Local police arrived on Friday, October 16, to deliver the notice, which grants occupants five days to vacate the premises.

The evacuation is a prerequisite for a planned €2.3 million redevelopment project scheduled to begin next week. The renovation will involve the removal of asbestos and the revitalization of the structure, which is currently managed by the Monza 2000 Social Cooperative. Local community groups, such as the San Fruttuoso Bene Comune committee, have previously documented the deteriorating conditions of the site, citing unmanaged waste and lack of maintenance.
