Monza to Host Formula 1 Sprint Races Starting in 2027

The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza will introduce a Saturday sprint race to the Italian Grand Prix from the 2027 season, running for three consecutive years. The announcement was made by Monza president Geronimo La Russa and reinforced by Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, who said the sport plans to expand its sprint program, potentially increasing the total number of sprint events from six to as many as ten.

The 2026 Grand Prix was already sold out, prompting the temporary addition of an extra grandstand for spectators. The expanded sprint calendar will be detailed when the 2027 schedule is released, with Portimao confirmed to join, Istanbul expected to return, Zandvoort removed, and a rotation set between Barcelona and Spa from 2028.
