Moon and Sun size similarity explained by celestial ratios

The Sun and Moon appear to be nearly identical in size when viewed from Earth due to a unique ratio: the Sun's diameter is approximately 400 times larger than the Moon's, while the Sun is also about 400 times farther away from Earth than the Moon is.

Scientific analysis reveals that the Moon possesses an unusually large size relative to Earth. Unlike the small asteroid-like moons of Mars, such as Phobos or Deimos, the Moon is massive enough to completely cover the Sun, enabling total solar eclipses. This phenomenon has existed for approximately four billion years but is considered a temporary celestial occurrence. Planetary scientist Alan Stern has categorized the largest natural satellites in the solar system as 'planetary-scale satellites,' a group to which the Moon belongs.
