Moon enters Waning Gibbous phase

The Moon is currently in a Waning Gibbous phase. Following the Full Moon, the lunar cycle has entered a period where the visible illumination decreases each night until the next New Moon is reached.

During this phase, the Moon rises after sunset in the east and sets after sunrise in the west. Observations with the naked eye can reveal features such as Mare Serenitatis, the Copernicus Crater, and Oceanus Procellarum. Binoculars or telescopes can provide more detailed views of the Endymion and Posidonius Craters, the Mare Nectaris, and the Apollo 15 and 16 landing sites.
