Moon enters waxing crescent phase in August 2026

During mid-August 2026, the Moon is transitioning through the waxing crescent phase. Following the New Moon on August 12, the lunar surface is gradually becoming more illuminated as it moves toward the First Quarter phase.

By August 18 and 19, the Moon's illumination is reported to be between approximately 33% and 42%. Observers can view specific features such as the Mares Crisium, Fecunditatis, and the Endymion Crater. With telescopic assistance, viewers may also identify the Apollo 16 and 17 landing sites.

The lunar cycle, which takes approximately 29.5 days to complete, will continue toward a Full Moon expected on August 28.
