Moon in Waning Gibbous Phase on August 1

NASA’s Daily Moon Guide reports that on August 1 the Moon is in a waning gibbous phase, with about 93 % of its surface illuminated. Observers can still see prominent features such as Mare Tranquillitatis, Copernicus and Tycho craters, and, with binoculars or a telescope, additional craters like Alphonsus, Endymion, Clavius, as well as the Apollo 14 landing site.

The next full Moon is expected on August 28. The Moon completes an eight‑phase cycle roughly every 29.5 days as its position relative to the Sun and Earth changes, producing the familiar sequence from new Moon to full Moon and back.
