Moon phase transitions to Waning Gibbous in late October 2026

During the period of October 28–29, 2026, the Moon enters the Waning Gibbous phase. On October 28, the Moon is approximately 17 days old with an illumination of roughly 91% to 95%. By October 29, NASA's Daily Moon Guide indicates the illumination decreases to approximately 87%.

Observers can view various lunar features during this phase. Without visual aids, the Tycho Crater, Copernicus Crater, and Mare Imbrium are visible. Using binoculars or telescopes allows for the observation of the Posidonius Crater, Mare Humorum, Grimaldi Basin, the Apollo 12 landing site, Rupes Altai, and the Caucasus Mountains.
