Mooncake Festival 2026 celebrated in Tanjungpinang and Semarang

The Mooncake Festival 2026 was celebrated in several Indonesian cities, highlighting cultural acculturation and local economic growth through traditional festivities.

In Tanjungpinang, thousands of participants joined a lantern parade through the streets of the Old Town area. Tanjungpinang Regional Secretary Zulhidayat noted that the festival serves as a symbol of harmony and diversity among various ethnic groups. The event is intended to preserve tradition while stimulating the creative economy, benefiting small businesses, culinary entrepreneurs, and lantern artisans.

In Semarang, the festival was held in the Chinatown area, centered at the Tay Kak Sie Temple. Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti described the celebration as a meeting point between the city's past and its future. The event aims to strengthen the Chinatown district as a cultural tourism destination through the development of areas like Pasar Semawis and Gang Baru.
